- Ask for a tour of the wine cellar! A lot of the Hedonism curated wine list is available by the half-bottle.
The partnership between Ollie Dabbous and Oskar Kinsberg is long standing and the short hiatus while they moved site from Dabbous in Fitzrovia over to Hide in Mayfair barely feels real now the new space is up and running. The food upstairs is exactly as delicious as it wants to be with their shiny new Michelin star, but the new postcode has brought a more luxurious feel to what was previously stripped back and utilitarian.
Once you’ve worked out how to open the front door, the hosts are ready and waiting to escort you down the stairs (which feel as though they are carved out of a giant tree trunk) and into the dimly lit, subterranean bar with a gleaming, heaving back bar and probably the most unbelievably stocked wine cellar you’ve ever seen. There’s not loads of seats, and most of them are at the polished curved bar top, but if you’re lucky enough to nab one, enjoy it. It’s easy to mind your own business but you also get a great chance to chat with the staff as they mix up delicious drinks from the seasonal menu.
There’s currently fourteen drinks on the list and team DrinkUp made a good dent on tasting a solid handful of them and we’re delighted to report that they’re fantastic. There are some crowd pleasers that have been on there since the beginning – the Adam & Eve with clarified milk is a particularly tasty, clear cocktail but the Forbidden Fruit with Emperical spirits and white balsamic is more seasonal and (by the very nature of Emperical) probably only there for a limited time. There’s bar snacks if you’re peckish, but they probably wouldn’t constitute dinner. There are oysters though. And they’re nice.
As if they couldn’t spoil us any more – Hide Below has a few magic things that you only know if you know… Walk in’s are welcome. Last orders are later than average at 12.30am and Oskar is almost always there hosting - and is a really good egg. Enjoy.
